Four great ancient inventions are attributed to China - gun powder and fireworks, the Compass, paper making and moveable type which allowed large volumes of manuscripts, books, art and painting to be committed to paper for the first time in the world.

The famous silk route begins in China and passes through India on its way to Mesopotamia and the Horn of Africa. In the old days, this route was extensively used by traders of all nationalities to carry fine good to and fro from Western Asia to China.
